Jonathan Steinberg, PhD


Dr. Jonathan Steinberg is a clinical psychologist at Riverhills Neuroscience with over 30 years of clinical, training, and management experience. He specializes in delivering evidence-based psychological interventions for patients with complex mental health needs, including those with co-occurring substance use disorders.

Dr. Steinberg earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Miami University and completed his residency at the Northwestern University Medical School Institute of Psychiatry. He also holds a Master of Science from Marquette University and a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers College. He is a licensed psychologist in the state of Ohio.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Steinberg spent over two decades with the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, where he served as a Staff Psychologist and Coordinator for the Substance Abuse/Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Program. His clinical expertise includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD, Interpersonal Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Motivational Enhancement Therapy.

A recognized leader in the field, Dr. Steinberg is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and has led over 70 workshops for professionals nationwide. He has also served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, teaching seminars on treatment planning and brief intervention.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Steinberg is deeply committed to community service. He served as a trustee for the Hamilton County Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health (ADAMH) Board for 24 years, helping to oversee public funds and improve local access to mental health and recovery services.
